As part of Science Week and our study of water we decided to grow some gummy bears. This fun experiment shows absorption at its most fun. The gummy bears absorbed a lot of water. In fact, they grew to four or five times their original size.
Before the experiment we measured and weighed our bears. After the experiment we did the same to see how much they grew. All the bears grew between 2 and 3 cm in length. They weighed a tiny 0.1g at the beginning of the experiment and 1g at the end.
I wonder who can remember what it is in the gummy bears that made them absorb so much water? Post your answers in the comments box!
